Rick Bacus: Historicky

Rick Bacus

Growing up in a family of musicians there was no denying the passion for music. Because of the number of years Rick has been a working musician there’s no doubt that you have seen him perform especially if you’re a KC rock and or blues fan. Long before graduating from college with a teaching degree in music education Rick picked up the bass guitar like so many others after seeing Ed Sullivan introduce the Beatles to America. He spent the next decade playing bass in the following bands.

“THE FABLES” -Oh, so young and foolish for music, but no one had more fun. From time to time they were on a weekly local Saturday morning TV show produced at WDAF called “The Happening” along with the Chessman, Chontels, The Classmen and other popular K.C. bands at the time.

“STONEWALL” - Alan Blasco / Whiz Kid on guitar! LeeRoy Cline on a fierce double set of drums. Whew! HOT boogie power trio. They always had BIG fun at "Aquarius" in Westport and at Volker Park on Sunday afternoons.

“MORNINGSTAR” -Persuing his interest in guitar after 10 years on bass, Rick was invited to join what would become one of KC's most popular bands of the 70's. He spent the next eight years with Morningstar headlining their own shows plus support to many other national acts. Morningstar produced two albums for Columbia/CBS Records in 1977 and 1979 touring the country extensively in support of each album. Sony Music re-released both albums in 1999 on CD as imports. Copies are rare and now bring a premium price. Check out Amazon.com or google Moriningstar and check the links if interested in obtaining a copy. Also check out www.kcmorningstar.com for the complete story about that band.

“THE JANET JAMESON BAND” - Janet came from another great band, “Cole Tuckey” to front her own band and was featured for several years in the K.C. and surrounding areas.

"POPPIN' FRESH" - This band ruled the local KC club scene well into the 1980's. John and Joan Anderson, Dave Williams, Brian Turner. Great musicians, Great Friends, Great Memories!

Guitarist for many years with the talents of Fred Albers, Ken Lovern, James Albright, Jerry Durrell and Keith Mallory at Unity Church of Overland Park. Rick is currently holding down the bass slot every Sunday with Richard Held, Monique Danielle and the rest of the music team at the Center for Spiritual Living in KCMO.

Since 1996 Rick has been a co-owner of BAM INC. (BACUS AUDIO & MUSIC INC.) with Janet Jameson, utilizing his skills as a composer and audio engineer with 20 plus years of experience in computer based midi/digital hard disc recording. Over the years BAM have produced music/cd projects for many KC singer / songwriters.
